Wearing wigs is a lot of fun but when summer comes, sometimes you need a hat to cover up your face so that you do not get burnt or ruin your skin. The main question that a lot of people ask is, can I wear a hat over my wig? The answer is simple, yes you can and we are going to give you a few tips and tricks to keep in mind so that you can pull off the wig and hat look on a daily basis.
Hats help you expand your accessory drawers and they can provide you with the perfect cover-up or added accessory that you need to tie your outfit together.
Tools you need to secure your hat to your wig:
- Bobby pins- easy way to secure your wig to your natural hair as well as to your hat.
- Wig glue- will help secure your wig tightly and straight to your head.
- Wig clips.
- Conditioning spray- will help keep your wig dry enough to create a non-slip surface on your wig.
- A good quality hat- they do not stretch a lot over time and they fit well over your head as well as your wig.
How to secure your hat to your wig:
First and foremost, the best way for you to secure your hat onto your human hair wig is bobby pins. They are easy to apply and they will keep your hat and wig in place throughout the day.
You do not want to place your hat on your wig too tight. Remember that keeping it light is not always the wrong way. You can have your hat on your wig tightly without trying to suffocate your head. So do not place the hat on your wig too tight.
Make sure that you secure the wig on your head correctly before you place the hat on your head. Ensure that you use your wig glue to secure your wig on your head. Once your wig is on your head securely, then you can place your hat on your wig and be good to go.
Did you know that if you wear a conditioning spray, the spray acts as a non-slip surface on your wig? This means that once you spray your hair, the hat will sit comfortably on your head without sliding around. This of it like the non-stick strips on the floor that prevents you from slipping.
Buying a good quality hat is the key when it comes to wearing a hat over your wig. Even though you want your hat to stay on your head, you need to buy a hat that is one size too big. The bigger size hat will give you enough space for your natural hair under your wig as well as the hair on your wig. The bigger hat will give you the best harmony between your wig and hat-wearing for the rest of the summer.
What types of wigs can you wear hats over?
Halo Wigs: Halo wigs are an ideal type of wig for you to wear if you want to have a hat day. They are wigs that have a patch at the top of the wig that does not have hair. Due to the fact that there is no longer hair where your hat sits, your hat will sit nice and straight on your head. You will not have to worry about your wig bunching up underneath your wig and you can secure the hat onto your Halo wig with extra wig pins and bobby pins.
Synthetic wigs: Synthetic wigs can be styled well underneath your hat and it will not move under your wig.
Human hair wigs: Human hair wigs are a bit more expensive than synthetic hair wigs however, they move the same way that your natural hair does so your human hair wig will look like you are not wearing a wig in the first place.
Lace front wigs: These wigs are my favorite wigs to wear in general! They blend well with your hairline and people do not even know you wearing a wig. Your hat will fit nicely on a lace front wig and securing your hat will be easy.
Alternatives to hats over your wig:
If you do not wish to wear a hat over your wig, you can always wear a scarf over your wig. You secure the scarf over your wig with bobby pins or you tie the scarf on tightly to your head.
If you do not want to use a scarf, you can always use a headcover over your wig.
Can you wear a hat in summer and winter?
Hats are not just there for the summertime, hats can be worn throughout summer and winter. They shield you from the sun as well as from the harsh winds and rains in winter.
Keep in mind that if you are going to wear a hat during the windy season, you are going to need to ensure that you secure your hat onto your wig well. Do not forget to use extra wig clips to help you do this.
Styles for your wig under your hat:
Straight hair is always a good idea. The hat will sit nicely on your straight human hair wig.
You can place your wig in a nice high pony. This is going to open up your face and show off your jawline.
Curls! You can never go wrong with a few curls in your hair to give your look dimension and much-needed volume.
As you can see, wearing a hat over your wig can be done. It is easy to do and if you secure the hat on your wig correctly, your hat will not fly all over the place. It will look natural and your hat will provide you with a great variation to your wardrobe look.
